Merits for Reciting the Qur'aan

The rewards of reciting the Qur'aan are many.
Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” So increase your recitation of the Qur’aan to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well.
--Tirmidhi

In another hadith, Aa’isha (radhiAllaahu 'anha) relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"Verily the one who recites the Qur’aan beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.”
 --Bukhari and Muslim

This hadith proves that people who are not well versed in the Arabic languge or have other difficulties in reciting the Quran, get even a higher reward for reciting the Quran in Arabic for their extra effort.. SubhaanAllaah!

Friday Reminder #9

The Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) said: “The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.”

The people asked, “O Messenger of Allaah, how can a person steal from his prayer?”

He said: “By not doing ruku’ and sujood properly.”

--Reported by Imaam Ahmad

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“A man’s prayer is not good enough until his back is straight in ruku’ and sujood.”

The Effect of Singing on Nifaaq

‘Abdullah bin Mas’ûd – may Allaah be pleased with him – said:
Singing sprouts hypocrisy (nifaaq) in the heart as water sprouts greens and herbs.

Ibn Battah, Al-Ibânah Al-Kubrâ Vol.2 p469, and Al-Bayhaqî, Al-Sunan Al-Kubrâ Vol. 52 p231.

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawzîyah – may Allaah have mercy on him – said:

These are the words of someone who fully understood singing and its effects, for no one regularly sings or listens to song except that his heart falls into nifaaq without him realizing. If such a person understood the reality of nifaaq and its end he would see it in his own heart. Never do the love of song and the love of Qur`aan come together in a person’s heart except that one expels the other. I and others have witnessed how heavy the Qur`aan feels to singers and song-listeners; how they coil when it is recited and how they get angry with a reciter when he recites too long for them (in prayer etc); and how their hearts do not benefit from what he recites: they are not moved to do anything by it. But when the Qur`aan of Shaytaan comes, lâ ilâha illallâh! How they lower their voices and settle down! How their hearts feel at peace and how the crying and emotions start, how moved they are inwardly and outwardly and spend on clothing and perfume and staying up hoping for a long night ahead. If this is not nifaaq then it is certainly the way to it and its foundation.

 Madârij Al-Sâlikîn, Vol.1 p487:

Al-Nifaaq

It is reported from Al-Hasan Al-Basrî – Allaâh have mercy on him – that he said:

It used to be said: it is part of al-nifâq (hypocrisy) to be inwardly different from what you are on the outside, to say one thing and do another and to be different in how you enter and how you leave. And the root of al-nifâq is lying.
Abû Bakr Al-Kharâ`itî, Masâwî Al-Akhlâq wa Madhmûmihâ p62.

Friday Reminder #7

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever does ghusl then comes to Jumu’ah, and prays as much as Allaah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jumu’ah and three more days.”
