"The best of your days is Friday.."

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws (radhiAllaahu 'anh) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"The best of your days is Friday. On that day Adam (peace be upon him) was created; on that day he died; on that day the Trumpet will be blown and on that day all of creation will swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings will be shown to me." They said, "O Messenger of Allaah, how will our blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?" He (peace be upon him) said, "Allaah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets, peace be upon them."

--Abu Dawood; Classed as saheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in his comments on Sunan Abu Dawood, 4/273; and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abu Dawood, 925.

Friday Reminder #9

The Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) said: “The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.”

The people asked, “O Messenger of Allaah, how can a person steal from his prayer?”

He said: “By not doing ruku’ and sujood properly.”

--Reported by Imaam Ahmad

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“A man’s prayer is not good enough until his back is straight in ruku’ and sujood.”

Friday Reminder #7

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever does ghusl then comes to Jumu’ah, and prays as much as Allaah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jumu’ah and three more days.”

Friday Reminder #6

Allaah’s Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said, "The best day during which the sun has risen is Friday. It is the day Adam was created. It is the day when Adam entered paradise and also when he was taken out from it. It is also the day on which the Day of Judgment takes place." (Narrated in Muslim, Abu Dawood, An-Nisai, and Al-Tirmidhi).

Men are obligated to participate in Friday Prayer. Allaah –Most Merciful, said in the Qur’aan (62:9), "O’ you who believe! When the call is proclaimed to Prayer on Friday hasten earnestly to the remembrance of Allaah, and leave off business. That is best for you if you but knew."  The congregational prayer of Friday is so important and significant to Muslims that an entire chapter has been sent down just on the congregational prayer of Friday in the Qur'aan (chapter 62).

In addition, the Messenger (peace be upon him) has warned those Muslims who do not attend Friday Prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said about people who do not attend Friday Prayer, "I wanted to ask a man to lead people in the prayer so that I may go and burn houses of men who did not attend the Friday Prayer with us"(Muslim, Ahmad). He (peace be upon him) also said, "Either they (meaning people who do not attend the Friday prayer) stop neglecting Friday prayers or Allaah will set a seal on their hearts so they cannot find the right path again." (Muslim, Ahmad, An-Nisai).

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "On Friday the angels come to stand on the doors of the mosque, the angels record who comes first, if the mosque prayer leader (Imam) starts delivering the speech, the angles close their files and come to listen to the speech." (Reported in Abu Dawood).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) has even said, "We (Muslims) came last and yet we are the first on the Day of Judgment. They have received the books before us (meaning the Torah and Injil (Gospel of Jesus)). We have received the Book after them (meaning the Qur’aan). Friday was their day to be glorified. However, they disputed on that while Allaah had told us Friday is the day to glorify. Thus, they will follow us. The Jews glorify Saturday, and the Christians glorify Sunday." (Bukhari and Mulim).

Friday Reminder #5

If a person walks to Jumu’ah prayer, for every step he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year. It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi (radhiAllaahu 'anhu) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever does ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 496; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 410

Friday Reminder #4

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, a light will shine for him from beneath his feet to the clouds of the sky, which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven (his sins) between the two Fridays.’”
(al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1/298)

Al-Mundhiri said, this was narrated by Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh in his Tafseer, with an isnaad with which there was nothing wrong.

Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen (rahimullaah) said:

The recitation of Surah Al-Kahf on Friday is a preferred act and there is merit in it. And there is no difference between a person reciting it from the Book or by heart. And the day, according to the Islamic law is from the time of the sunrise until sunset. Based upon this, if a person recites it after the Friday prayer, he will receive the reward for it.

Friday Reminder #3

Coming early to Jumu’ah brings a great reward.

Al-Bukhaari (814) and Muslim (850) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever does ghusl on Friday like ghusl for janaabah, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.”

Friday Reminder #2

Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The five daily prayers, and from one Jumu’ah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.”

--Muslim

Friday Reminder

Hadhrat Ali Ibn Abu Taalib (RadhiAllaahu Anhu) narrated:

When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come early in the morning, sit at the door of the mosque, and record that so-and-so came at the first hour, and so-and-so came at the second hour until the imam comes out (for preaching). When a man sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), where he remains silent and does not interrupt, he will receive a double reward. If he stays away, sits in a place where he cannot listen (to the sermon), silent, and does not interrupt, he will receive the reward only once. If he sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and look (at the imam), and he does not remain silent, he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion sitting besides him to be silent (while the imam is preaching), he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who interrupts (during the sermon) will receive nothing (no reward) on that Friday. Then he (the narrator) says in the end of this tradition: I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say so.
